I don't remember what some of the others were about - must be coming up for a re-read!Anthony G Williamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00798830903236765181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331135384154117296.post-42812604440511657562010-04-25T15:45:52.408+01:002010-04-25T15:45:52.408+01:00His works were different. He was the first writer who incorporated Egyptian mythology in some of his stories, or at least he was the first one that I had read--a welcome change from the Greek myths that were so common back then.

His Null-A novels were also very unique, the 1st two anyway.

Other favorites are "The Black Destroyer" which ended up as the first part of The Voyage of the Space Beagle, which introduced me to the value of a generalist and the dangers of narrow specialization.

The Weapon Shop stories were also a favorite, as well as Slan, and numerous others.Fredhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10233846613173866140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331135384154117296.post-17433632532891036182010-04-25T13:44:45.388+01:002010-04-25T13:44:45.388+01:00Fred, I have a soft spot for van Vogt. As a result, I'm willing to overlook his flaws.Anthony G Williamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00798830903236765181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331135384154117296.post-50288223884205736452010-04-23T20:00:44.623+01:002010-04-23T20:00:44.623+01:00Thanks for the review. Thanks for the review.M Paxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14096697282530998519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331135384154117296.post-26970390066750485722010-04-23T16:32:39.370+01:002010-04-23T16:32:39.370+01:00I read and enjoyed _Slan_ many years ago and wonde...I read and enjoyed _Slan_ many years ago and wonder what I would think of it today. I guess I may try the sequel but probably not tomorrow or the next day.

I also tried the 3rd in the "Null A" series and found that almost unreadable.

Van Vogt along with being prolific is also an uneven writer, in that some of his do survive the decades quite nicely while others don't.Fredhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10233846613173866140noreply@blogger.com
