When he rewrote Hoy Sleep he incorporated many of the short stories into the narrative, and titled it The Worthing Chronicle. When he did that both Capitol and Hot Sleep were put out of publication, making it so that some of the stories from capitol were not available in print anywhere. A few years later, he republished The Worthing Chronicle as The Worthing Saga, this book including all but four of the stories from the book Capitol in their complete form at the end of the novel. It also includes three other stories (two of which were previously unpublished) that take place in a different time period. One of the original stories from the book Capitol, titled A Thousand Deaths, can be found in his collection, Maps in a Mirror, and the final three stories he has stated he will never publish again. You can find Capitol, Hot Sleep, and The Worthing Chronicle for about 15 bucks total on Amazon. Something about a game being played over many years?

I mainly remember the Sorayama (or very similar in style) covers that OSC's books had in the UK.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331135384154117296.post-38532278488160727832009-10-30T18:08:09.695+00:002009-10-30T18:08:09.695+00:00In 1990? I shall have to check around and see what I can come up with around here.

It would be interesting to read all of them together, especially if Card had something to do with setting up the order of the stories.

Thanks for reminding me of this one.Fredhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10233846613173866140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331135384154117296.post-37984341320970237342009-10-30T03:59:49.661+00:002009-10-30T03:59:49.661+00:00Fred, the book I read was published by Tor in 1990...Fred, the book I read was published by Tor in 1990.Anthony G Williamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00798830903236765181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331135384154117296.post-23298871186559425262009-10-30T02:09:39.949+00:002009-10-30T02:09:39.949+00:00When was _The Worthing Saga_ volume published? I ...When was _The Worthing Saga_ volume published? I know I read a number of the stories years ago, and I'm fairly certain that I read _The Worthing Chronicle_ also. But I'm not so sure about a one volume edition called _The Saga_.

I have a vague recollection that there may also have been an earlier version of the _Chronicle_ that was revised and a new edition was published.

I think I read some of the short stories in an edition titled _Capitol_, if I'm not mistaken. The association of the length of time sleeping and prestige seems familiar.

I don't think the long time sleepers stayed awake long enough to become dissociated and detached. The society struck me as being quite stagnant, except for such ephemeral elements such as clothing and fashion. These people struck me more as dilettantes rather than as one being actively involved in the current social/cultural/political scene.

I thought those that I had read were examples of Card's best work.Fredhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10233846613173866140noreply@blogger.com
